It has been over five years since SigEp’s return to Utah State University and I am happy to report that the heavy lifting that we did in those early years to get our fraternity off the ground has not been in vain. A lot of exciting things have happened over the past year and these are just a few highlights:
1. Nineteen new members joined during the 08-09 school year, doubling the size of the chapter
2. Phi Kappa Wheelhouse Award
3. Highest GPA on campus both semesters (not that this is news)
4. A New Website that we keep up to date
Looking forward, there are some equally exciting happenings coming this school year. First and foremost, we will have a house! For those of you who haven’t kept up to date with USU news there was an unfortunate death in our Greek Community: Michael Starks, 18, of Salt Lake City, died this last November while pledging Sigma Nu. Due to this tragedy, the Sigma Nu fraternity is vacating campus and, along with it, their house. The national Sigma Nu organization has approached our chapter and we have agreed on terms for a lease of their house for four-to-five years. So for the first time we will have a place to call home, hang our letters, and, of course, paint a “Red Door”; the traditional symbol of a SigEp house. There will be thirty men living in the house: sixteen of which are brothers and fourteen which are not. What an advantage to get at least fourteen people to join during the first semester!
